The Women Behind Widows Rising

SONYA JACOBSEN

In 2018, Sonya lost her husband of 27 years to ALS. If you’ve experienced grief, you know how lonely and isolating it can feel. In 2023, Sonya put together a small group of widows. Together, they named their group “Widows Rising”, and they get together every few months to socialize. It is not a support group in the traditional sense, rather, a supportive group of women with similar stories and challenges. They talk about anything from their losses to parenting, current events, or thoughts/experiences with dating, etc.

Sonya would love to expand her group to anyone who has experienced the devastating loss of a spouse or partner. Feel free to message her if you or someone you know might be interested!

Sonya received her 200 hour yoga teacher training certification in 2014, her Chopra meditation instructor certification in 2016, and Grief Counselor certification in 2024.

LIZ SEADEN

Liz lost her husband of 18 years suddenly due to an undiagnosed heart condition in 2008. She found that yoga and meditation were enormously powerful practices that helped her navigate her grief while supporting her young son and rebuilding her life. Liz became a certified yoga teacher in 2014 and welcomes the opportunity to support other widows by sharing these practices and her experiences.

Liz received her 200 hour yoga teacher training certification in 2014, and her E-RYT 500 in 2024.
